Step 1 | Gather your cleaning supplies
Before you start, make sure you have everything you need to make the cleaning process easier. You’ll need the following:
- A soft-bristled brush (or an old toothbrush)
- Mild soap or gentle laundry detergent
- Baking soda
- White vinegar (when you want to clean mesh trainers)
- A clean cloth or sponge
- Warm water
- Magic eraser (for stubborn stains)
- Shoe protector spray (for after cleaning)
Step 2 | Remove the laces and insoles
Take out the laces and insoles before cleaning. This makes it easier to reach all areas of the shoe. Luckily, most Wolky shoes feature a removable, anatomically shaped footbed, making this step even more convenient!
Tip: Wash the laces separately by soaking them in warm, soapy water. For insoles, simply wipe them down with a damp cloth.
Step 3 | Brush off loose dirt
Use a dry brush or an old toothbrush to gently remove loose dirt and debris from your trainers. This helps prevent dirt from getting rubbed deeper into the fabric when you start cleaning. Wolky shoes are built to last, so a gentle pre-cleaning step will ensure their longevity.
Step 4 | Clean the uppers
Depending on the material of your trainers, you’ll want to use different cleaning methods:
- Leather trainers: Mix mild soap with warm water and dip a clean cloth or sponge into the solution. Wipe the trainers gently, focusing on stained areas. Use a dry towel to remove excess moisture.
- Mesh trainers: Mix equal parts baking soda and white vinegar to form a paste. Apply this to stubborn stains using a toothbrush and gently scrub in circular motions. Let sit for about 15 minutes, then wipe clean with a damp cloth.
- Synthetic trainers: Use a mild soap and water mixture and a sponge to clean. Avoid using too much water, as it can soak into the shoe.
Step 5 | Scrub the soles
The soles tend to pick up the most dirt, so give them extra attention:
- Use a magic eraser or an old toothbrush with a bit of soap and water to scrub away stains.
- For tough stains, you can mix baking soda with a little water to create a paste and scrub with a brush.
Wolky’s durable outsoles are designed to provide long-lasting support, so keeping them clean ensures they stay grippy and functional.
Step 6 | Rinse and dry
Wipe your trainers down with a damp cloth to remove any soap or residue. Stuff them with paper towels or a dry cloth to help them keep their shape and absorb moisture.
Warning: Avoid direct heat or sunlight, as this can cause the material to yellow or warp!
Step 7 | Protect and maintain
Once your trainers are clean and dry, keep them that way for longer by using a protective spray. You don’t want to have to clean your shoes every day, right?! So, spray them with a shoe protector spray to help repel dirt and stains. Store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
